As for the plasma cannon well its quicker, easier and cheaper (both isk and SP wise.) to just use AV nades for AV and for fighting infantry its like a MD but worse or a sort of weird one shot shotgun. The only use I have found for it is trolling people.
I love the plasma cannon, it is a very niche weapon but have its uses as it is. I have taken down tanks and dropships with it at long range. The fast moving LAVs are difficult to hit.
It is great for long range combat, have numerous times forced the reddots to leave defensive positions and give room for our own team members to move forward. It got a decent splash radius and enough damage to hurt. Probably since the MD is becoming rare, it can function as suppression instead.
For a non combat oriented logi I love this weapon, much more than my exile. It only becomes a problem when I am alone facing multiple opponents in close quarter combat. It works if I am lucky against a single target in CQC.
I very rarely see others using this weapon in game, probably could use a buff. |

I still use it but I always get the feeling that its just not that good, yes I can OHK enemys with it but you only get 9shots and it burns through nano's. I am sure the splash is broken as well by the way I get direct hits allot more than I do splash hits. How on earth have you taken out dropships with it at long range I have managed a grand total of 1 dropship kill with it and that was because I hit it and he decided to try and squash me for some reason, normally I land a hit on DS's and they are away and out of my range by the time I have reloaded or at best I will get one more hit but its not enough to finish them. The one thing I find it useful for now is going against shield tanks just because I can put 2-3 shots in them and remove or badly damage their shields then finish them with AV nades. Plus the adv and proto level versions have slightly more damage and thats it, other guns get accuracy increases as they go up or blast radius PC doesn't. The operations skill is useless reduce a 0.6 charge time by 25% makes a huge difference. I dont get the sight at all I can aim with it dont get me wrong but the lowest part of the sight is higher than the highest point of the round's arc unless your using it as a shotgun just seems a bit odd for a sight I think it should had a hybrid between FG and MD sights like the FG's reticule for close and the MD falloff for longer range. Its a shame I like this weapon and it has potential but it definatley needs tweeking and new variants would be much appreciated. TL:DR just general moaning.
I have advanced nanohives and have no problems with ammunition, I run as logi and use the repair tool most of my time. Even in one domination map where I camped my nano hive and spammed the reds defensive position far away in an open map, I had no problems with my ammunition.
And my splash damage also works very good, most close quarter combat are won after hitting with two times splash damage. The same goes for longer range hits, I get kill assists which I assume is from the splash damage as few would survive a direct hit.
The drophips I have taken down are either a ship hovering low and already damaged where I can get two shots in before it manages to escape or a dropship on ground picking up teammates. It is amazing how far away I can hit stuff with this canon. The same goes for tanks, quick shots from the distance and the tank driver sometimes decides to drive in the wrong direction not seeing where I was shooting from. This thing does not light up as the forge gun, stealth AV weapon.
I keep my distance and never move up close enough to throw grenades at the tanks. I prefer to stay behind my team mates and repair their armor. It is in situations where a tank is moving in on our group that the plasma canon is excellent for making it back away.
It takes time getting used to the sight, I am starting to get an idea how far up I should aim to hit stuff in the distance.
I use the advanced canon and plan to go all in with the plasma canon skills when I get the skill points.
But as I said, I am logi and in some matchesI only get 1-2 kills which is fine with me, I rarely die more than 1-2 times per match. It is a very situational weapon and I like it because it fits my play style as a support logi. If only it was better at hitting fast moving LAVs |

I agree it could use a higher bonus, but I still have hopes that it will help. I used to be a forge gunner in before Uprising and I know that even just 0.5 seconds could make a huge difference between getting the shot or getting killed. For now I can get two shots of in most 1v1 cqc instances, but there are times where I need 0.2-0.5 seconds more to get the second lethal shot released. This thing can kill proto suits with two splash hits, it can quickly become overpowered. Now it seems like it could use some buff, maybe a faster moving plasma projectile. |

Medic 1879 wrote:^ I play logi as well and I am currently experimenting with using the PC instead of MD the lack of PG is very nice, I suppose I complain about it too much it is a nice and unique weapon but it just annoys me for some reason the sight is useable but a bit kitten it could be allot better. I want to love this gun but everytime I use it I think meh my MD could have done that better or when I go after a vehicle I think meh swarms could have done this better. I am going to have a good go as using this as my only weapon for a while because it would be a good multipurpose weapon but I need to stop telling myself other weapons are better in certain scenarios.
Yes, I am sorry that the MD was nerfed, never used the MD but as I heavy I hated the massdriver more than any other weapon, maybe except for the SS 5skilled short gunner. Only reason for using the plasma canon instead of swarm is that it can be used against infantry. It would kill the plasma canon if the swarm launcher could be used against infantry.
And against LAVs it is mission impossible unless I shoot at them while they drive directly towards me. I will die if they survive the only shot I can get before getting mashed by the LAV. I panic every time I hear the sound of a LAV |
